"The Lemon Seller"
Oil on panel
This subject happened to exist in the old part of Cairo. He glowed
against the ancient wall behind him. Unlike the painting, his outfit was
beige in colour, similar to his turban, but had it been painted so, the
image would have looked bland. The colour blue was carefully chosen in order
to compliment the lemons and the rest of the painting. It was an opportunity
to introduce more colour to what would otherwise have been, a very tonal
looking painting. |
