"Reading The Letter"

Inspired by a group of locals in a street market in Cairo. This painting is a good example of taking a simple subject and bringing it to life with the use of chiaroscuro (play of light).

It is clear that the artist’s influence dates back to the Old Masters such as Caravaggio and Rembrandt. The glow that exists in such works occurs through the contrast between thick to thin layers of paint and the basic ground preparation upon which the image is painted.
