"The Clausson family"
Oil on canvas
Dealing with four figures is never easy due to conventional symmetry. Composition was the most important aspect at the start of this commission.
The boys (Oscar and August) are identical twins, and that set another challenge on its own. Each carries his own personality, although, wearing the same coloured T-shirt produced the bond between two brothers.
Fi (the young girl) is out on her own as she is the oldest. Her pose introduces a strong visual direction into the painting for the viewer. Her warm coloured T-shirt, compliments the background colours that are cool in comparison.
Mansa (the dog) defies convention by taking centre stage. He is the link between all the children. His natural colours exist in all the children’s T-shirts.
